‘I can do better than Sadio Mane’

Southampton winger Moussa Djenepo has set his sights on emulating former St Mary’s favourite Sadio Mane. Djenepo joined the Saints from Standard Liege last summer for £14million and has two goals and two assists to his name in his first Premier League season. He is the latest in the long line of exciting wide players to appear for the South coast club, with Mane also on that list.

And Djenepo believes he has the ability to match Mane, if not better him. “Sadio is a big inspiration for me. I like him, he’s a very big player,’ he told talkSPORT. “But I think I can be better [than him] if I work hard. Sadio is a very big player, and I’m young and I need to learn more. “In the future, we will see. I will do my best to become the next Sadio Mane.”

Teams will also be able to name nine substitutes instead of the usual seven. Football’s international law-makers gave competitions the option of increasing substitutes to protect player welfare on the sport’s resumption. Premier League football will return on 17 June after a three-month absence. An announcement of the first few rounds of fixtures since the campaign was halted by coronavirus on 13 March was expected yesterday.
