Emeka Ngene of the Labour Party and Sam Ngene of the Peoples Democratic Party will compete for 4,618 votes in Saturday's rerun election in Enugu South Urban State Constituency.
The Court of Appeal ordered the rerun due to irregularities in the original March 18, 2023 election, in which Emeka Ngene was declared the winner with 5,862 votes.
Both candidates are currently conducting extensive door-to-door campaigns to woo voters in the Uwani area of Enugu, where the ward in contention is located.
The election will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and involve 4,618 eligible voters in one Registration Area and eight polling units.
All technological devices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be deployed, including the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Election Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner has made adequate arrangements for a smooth election. Sam Ngene has been running a door-to-door and one-on-one campaign with the voters for weeks.
Emeka Ngene's campaign strategy is not known as he was not available for comment.
