Two West African giants, Nigeria and Ghana have gone into partnership in their effort to fight against the menace of hate speech in both countries.
To achieve this feat, Ghana’s independent broadcasting organization is currently in a meeting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with its counterpart from Nigeria.
This much was disclosed on Tuesday by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) which issued a short statement on its official Twitter account.
“Ghana independent broadcasting organization arrives Abuja, partners broadcasting organizations of Nigeria to tackle hate speech, improve professionalism and code of ethics,” the NTA tweeted.
Hate speech in Nigeria is a scourge that causes great trouble and just last week, the Osun State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 28-year-old Kehinde Adekusibe for allegedly inciting inter-ethic violence.
Adekusibe who obviously is a Yoruba man from one of the South West states in Nigeria allegedly posted on his Twitter account a call to “Let’s kill all the Igbos.”
Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi announced the arrest through a statement posted on his verified Twitter handle last Thursday.
Adejobi said Adekusibe was arrested for posting hateful content calculated to incite ethnic violence in the country via his Twitter account on May 18, 2023.
He further said that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation.
“On 18th May 2023, Adekusibe on his tweeter handle wrote: “Let’s kill all the Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with a passion,” Adejobi said.
